Working together
More and more dentists work together – in all kinds of ways and for all kinds of reasons.
The way in which you practise your profession is subject to change. One development relates to the way of working together within a dental practice. For instance, there are very few dentists today who provide care to patients entirely alone. Dental hygienists and prevention assistants, for example, are increasingly involved in the delivery of care.
Some dentists believe extensive partnership within a group practice increases the continuity of care, and feel they are better able to share their professional expertise as a result. Others prefer a solo practice because they spend less time on coordination and consultation with other dentists.
The forms of partnership found within oral health teams vary in terms of size and intensity and are very much determined by individual preference. The way you organise your practice is therefore one of the most important choices in your professional life.
